Jai Gajanan Maharaj
Gajanan Maharaj was a master yogi, he rejuvenated faith and wellbeing in society with his mystical powers. As a calm and composed teenage boy, he made his confounding introduction to mankind, on 23rd February 1878 at Shegaon, a small town in the Maharashtra state of India. ‘Prakat din’ ceremony is being widely celebrated in remembrance of that day. In that very first appearance, he displayed his great of dispassion towards worldly things, he had no discriminatory thoughts about things being good or bad. Just like a true Equanimeous, everything around was brahman for him, be it a muddy puddle or delicious food or anything else.
As time passed by, countless divine miracles of Gajanan Maharaj were experienced by the people. He often chanted ‘Gan Gan Ganat Bote’ mantra and performed meditational practices. Pundits of his time were astonished by his immaculate knowledge of Vedas, Puranas, and various Holy Scriptures. He lived a natural life, free from worldly desires, even unbounded from mere desire of clothes to cover his body. Gajanan Maharaj could effortlessly tame creatures like wild unrestrained horse, bewildered cow, angry-crows, and so on. He used his yogic prowess to revive life in those who were seriously ill, to flood the well instantaneously with water, which was dry for twelve years, to rescue people from painful incidents, and to fulfill their noble desires. The list is endless indeed. To keep greedy and selfish people at bay, he rarely demonstrated his powers and often lived life pretending to be a psychotic and no permanent schedule in life.
On 8th September 1910, Gajanan Maharaj left his mortal body in Shegaon and attained premeditated Nirvana samadhi. Gajanan Maharaj and Sai Baba shared an eternal bond of love and brotherhood.
The day when Gajanan Maharaj attained Samadhi, in the early hours of dawn at Shirdi, Sai Baba summoned a barber, got his head shaved off followed by a bath. His devotees were completely surprised by such an unusual act of Sai Baba, who generally used to take a bath in the afternoon. He also distributed coconut pieces, sugar, groundnuts to the people who were present over there and hailed aloud “Shree Gajanan Maharaj ki Jai” accompanied by people around. He informed them that his Brother was “going”. Furthermore, Sai Baba observed grievance and exclaimed painfully “my life goes, big life goes…” occasionally on the day of Samadhi of Gajanan Maharaj. It can’t be a mere coincidence that Shree Das Ganu who wrote “Shree Gajanan Vijay” a biography of Gajanan Maharaj, was an ardent follower of Sai Baba. No wonder Sai Baba and Gajanan Maharaj shared a great spiritual connection among themselves.
