SIGNIFICANCE OF OIL AND SINDHOOR ABHISHEKAM
The name ‘Hanuman’ in Sanskrit literally means a disfigured jaw – ‘Hanu’ means Jaw and ‘Man’ means disfigured. It is believed that his jaw was disfigured by Lord Indira’s thunderbolt that struck him sending him straight on Earth during his childhood, disfiguring his jaw permanently.
It is believed, Lord Hanuman is one God who is easy to please. However, it is also true that the devotee need be completely into him and holds no malice in their heart. Here is the reason why we offer Sindhoor to Lord Hanuman to seek his blessings.
On observing Goddess Sita, Hanuman had asked her the significance of Vermillion that she put in the middle parting of her head without fail; to this Sita had told him it was a signifier of her unconditional love and respect for her companion Ram. Hanuman then covered his entire body with vermillion to show his love and devotion for Lord Ram. Ram was so impressed that he blessed Hanuman with a boon that whoever worshipped him with Vermillion will be rid of all their difficulties.
We would like our devotees to get blessings from Lord Hanuman by offering Oil and Sindhoor to Him.
OM SAI RAM..
